I use thumb middle and ring. Jackson Browne, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley. Love that stuff. So instead of becoming a monthly subscriber, could I just send you money? Information please. Great lesson, man. I'm really struggling to wrap my thumb over the neck the F bass note on the F chord, but I'll keep working on it. I might have to bar the low F and the high C (on the B string) note.

Have you done to live is to fly? I know its pretty easy but it would be cool to learn esactly how he plays it

just found your channel... its not often i get excited looking for new stuff. most of the instructional videos just cover the material. you also do that but go into depth to work thru the challanging parts with tips and really break it down beat by beat. the way you present the material is not only exceptional clear but done in a way that cut out all the filler material most videos have. that allows for easy referencing during playback you dont have to skip around looking for the actual part you need to hear. when its slowed down like this just grabbin a few measures at a time isnt so cumbersome. thanks for the great video lookin forward to checking out the rest

This is even better and more complete than any other I found on this song. I tried to learn it years ago, but learned it wrong having completely worn out the record playing it over and over. Now I clearly see/hear the correct sequence of notes and their proper timing. Hardest thing is unlearning my wrong habits on this song. But now it all makes sense. Will take a while to get it to 160, but it will happen. Thanks for an awesome lesson, and I was happy to contribute.

I’m putting this to work and going to try to cover it Friday night at our guitar campfire circle. Ps. One of our guys spent 20 years in Austin and knew and played with Blaze. One night I played the cover and he said it brought tears. I thought he was exaggerating until I looked over and he was wiping his eyes. That’s some touching stuff that not all can understand. I like your tutorials. Your teaching method is very effective and I enjoy your humour. I recommend anyone wanting to learn travis picking learn the Kansas song Dust In The Wind with the three finger technique first. It’s a beautiful song that isn’t too hard to learn and sounds great. The reason I recommend it is that it follows the most common TP pattern throughout the song without much if any variation. Basically you learn just one pattern to play the whole song, and once you learn that pattern, almost everything else is just a variation of that pattern, and you will have the finger dexterity to handle anything.

Hearing you play and sing this song brings me back to fall of my Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years of highschool. I always come back to Townes around that time and it reminds me of all those time, good and bad. But I thank God for all of them, I wouldnt be who I am today if things went another way. 🙏

Hey Mike. Thanks for all that you do! A couple years ago, I heard Kathy's song by S&G. It inspired me to pick the guitar up and play again after not performing for years through and after Covid. Your video taught me how to pick it and I've ridden that picking pattern through many other songs and originals since then. You're the best!

the program is called Transcribe! I've got no affiliation. It was recommended to me. There's tons of similar programs out there. Perhaps some better and/or cheaper. I dont know. But you can always start by just slowing down youtube's playback speed. I did that for 20 years.

This blues is hard to pick - I've been trying for years and always failed to capture it's sparkle. This lesson is the best I've seen for getting it right, so I'm going to have one last try!

First time I heard this tune it was performed by his son. I actually prefer that version. One of my very favorites.
